For us, Religious Education is more about making disciples than it is about completing workbooks! Our focus is to encourage children and their families to follow Jesus, and there are four concrete ways we do that as Catholics:
1. Daily Prayer 2. Weekly Mass (and Holy Days) 3. Regular Confession 4. Service
Therefore, our Religious Education emphasizes prayer, Mass attendance, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and caring for our families and the people in our schools and community.
The Eucharist is Key Jesus said, "I am the vine and you are the branches." We are strengthened by God's grace. Because we are a Eucharist-centered parish, Mass Attendance is by far one of the most important things we look at for sacramental preparation. Each child receives a set of "Mass Cards" at the beginning of the academic year. After each mass, children may drop their cards in the receptable provided. We understand that certain circumstances (such as work schedules, custody arrangements, and illness) may present challenges to families; please contact us with any concerns you have.
Schedule Religious instruction is available for children in grades 1-7 and is offered during the academic year. We have youth groups please for those from 8th to 12th grade, which incorporates doctrine, social activities, prayer, and trips. First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are typically offered in second grade, while Confirmation is typically offered in seventh or eighth grade, although factors such as age, prior class attendance, Mass attendance are taken into consideration.
It is never too late to receive a Sacrament and we will work with you! Please contact us! Older children and teens may receive some instruction through small-group instruction and/or youth group, and adults have the opportunity of attending "Catholicism 101" OCIA classes. This engaging "Intro to Catholicism" is facilitated by Deacon Barney Kahn and is for adults interested in becoming Catholic, completing their sacraments, OR for Catholics who just want to learn more about their faith!
Please call or email- us with questions. We are happy to help you!
